New pilot watch celebrates 747

As the last of the 747 airliners rolls off the Boeing production line, Breitling is launching a limited-edition Navitimer celebrating the jet that revolutionized air travel.

Limited to 747 pieces, the new Navitimer Boeing 747 features the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) logo at 12 o’clock, representing its heritage as a pilot’s chronograph, according to company officials.

The colors on the dial echo the palette found on the original Boeing 747, captured in its cream dial with black subdials and red-and-white slide rule with blue accents. The “Boeing 747” name is integrated into the slide rule’s inner scale. The watch also features an integrated date window at 6 o’clock. It is available on a black alligator leather strap or seven-row metal bracelet.

The caseback contains the special engravings “One of 747” and the phrase “The Original Jumbo Jet.”

The 1574th — and last — Boeing 747 will be delivered in 2023.

“What better way to remember a revolutionary jumbo jet than with a revolutionary pilot’s chronograph,” said Georges Kern, CEO of Breitling.

Price: $9,400.

I don’t have the TIME (pun intended) nor desire to spend ridiculous amounts of money on a watch regardless of who makes it—-even though I can afford it. I could put that $9,400.00 to better use in panel upgrades and other improvements—- lots of fuel if nothing else. The fact that Breitling calls it quits in the area of service after a period of time and that the asking prices of its watches are simply nuts adds insult to injury. My wife bought me a beautiful Citizen Eco-Drive JR30 Skyhawk chronograph (Blue Angels edition) many years ago for $300.00 and it hasn’t skipped a beat. It has kept perfect time, battery is charged by light which I’ve never had to replace, has all the analog functions of the Breitling PLUS many other useful digital functions that Breitlings in general don’t have. My trusty Citizen watch is telling me I’m late for lunch so—-got to go to fly to the $100.00 hamburger joint! Blue Skies to everyone!

I have a Breitling FA18 watch that has a problem with its computer, I sent it back to Breitling for repairs and they said they no longer support that model and I could just throw it away! It cost $1300. Dollars in 1999! I will never buy another Breitling product again at any price! Buyer beware!
