Smitty Smith of FunPlacesToFly.com just posted a new video to YouTube paying homage to his country hangar, which he says he loves because there’s “no tower, no traffic (to speak of), no over-priced hangar leases, no rude FBO, just good friends and peaceful surroundings.”

“no tower, no traffic (to speak of), no over-priced hangar leases, no rude FBO” Ouch. Sad, but true for many government-owned GA airports these days, especially those with “jetport” or “executive” in their names. No wonder STOL aircraft are so popular – if you have a few cleared acres, you have your own airport. A simple but sturdy DIY T-hangar can be easily built for under $10k with the help of a few friends. Make sure your plane operates on Mogas, and you will save a ton on fuel.
