Greg Lutz, who has been a pilot for 40 years, has launched Aviation Cross Country Weather (AVXCWX), a free website created to facilitate cross-country flight planning around the weather.
The website allows users to enter multiple airports along the intended flight path and easily view three-hour forecast snapshots along the route for a three-day window, he explained.
“This gives a simple visual interpretation of the best time frame to make your flight,” Lutz added.
Data is taken directly from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Blend of Models.
“I created AVXCWX because I was looking for an easier way to find out when I could get there,” he said. “I fly a 1960 Cessna 210 out of New England where weather is always the main factor in planning any trip.”
AVXCWX is free to use with no sign-up required. It is desktop and mobile device friendly.
