SHERIDAN, Wyoming — The Sheridan Pilots Association has taken the next step toward promoting aviation by establishing itself as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The organization was previously a 501(c)(7) organization, the designation for a social club that is exempt from federal income tax if it is “organized for pleasure, recreation, and other nonprofitable purposes.”
A 501(c)(3) organization, on the other hand, must spend its income on activities “that further their exempt purpose, which is a charitable cause.”
“Our goal is to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals and enthusiasts while highlighting the importance of aviation in our community,” said J.T. Grainger, president of the Sheridan Pilots Association. “Now we can fully allow for the support of our community and membership to further advance our mission. We look forward to the potential this brings to the association, fellow aviators, and the local youth it will benefit in the future.”
“As a group of passionate aviation enthusiasts, we recognize the importance of educating the public about the value of aviation in our daily lives,” he continued. “Aviation is not only a vital component of our local economy, but it also plays a critical role in emergency services, search and rescue efforts, and transportation.”
The organization will focus on several initiatives, including:
- Provide resources and flight simulator experiences to youth and the community
- Support local aviation businesses and organizations
- Organize events and activities to promote aviation awareness and education
“We look forward to working further with our community partners to achieve our goals and make a positive impact,” association officials said.
