Bipartisan legislation to improve the Notice to Air Mission (NOTAM) system has received near-unanimous Congressional approval.
The NOTAM Improvement Act, sponsored in the House by Representatives Pete Stauber (R-MN) and Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA), passed 424-4 on Jan. 25, 2023, while similar legislation sponsored by Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Jerry Moran (R-KS), and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), passed the Senate unanimously in May 2023.
Once the House and Senate versions are reconciled, the bill will be delivered to the White House for an expected signature by President Joe Biden, officials with the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) explained.
The legislation establishes a task force made up of a broad cross-section of industry representatives, including general aviation, to make recommendations for improving the delivery of NOTAM information. It also requires the FAA Administrator to implement a back-up system.
The legislation came about after the NOTAM system crashed in January, leading to the grounding of most flights in the National Airspace System for about 12 hours.
I really don’t care what they call them as long as I can get them and read them to improve flight safety.
Further, I couldn’t care less about who sends them out, if they are woke, LBGTQIA+ (sorry if I left anyone out, I’m 77 and it is difficult to keep track of all this) or whatever, and the airplane doesn’t care about it either.
Best Regards, live and let live.
Congress should freeze all funding to the FAA until they rid it of wokeness. NOTAMs are NOTices to AirMen. Stop the silliness and grow up.
