This is an excerpt from a report made to the Aviation Safety Reporting System. The narrative is written by the pilot, rather than FAA or NTSB officials. To maintain anonymity, many details, such as aircraft model or airport, are often scrubbed from the reports.
I was conducting a training flight with a student in a high-wing single engine airplane. We contacted tower about 7 miles to the east of Minot International Airport (KMOT) in North Dakota, and were instructed to enter a two mile right base for Runway 31.
Less than a minute later, Aircraft Y, a low-wing single engine airplane, called and stated that they were 12 miles east at 4,500 msl.
KMOT Tower instructed them to enter a right downwind for Runway 31, which they replied to.
About 30 seconds later, Aircraft Y flew past us about 20 feet above us and less than 200 feet off of our right wing.
Aircraft Y proceeded to cut us off and entered a right base and reported their position to KMOT Tower. They admitted on frequency to having flown right past us.
KMOT Tower told them that they were not in compliance with instructions and told them to break off their approach and follow behind us.
Both aircraft landed safely.
I spoke with the pilot of Aircraft Y, and he seemed unconcerned that he almost hit us mid air and honestly seemed bothered that I would bring up the situation in person.
This type of behavior is dangerous and unacceptable.

“Hey! I own an airplane! I’m an ‘influencer’ on social media! I’m untouchable. If you don’t like my flying, put it in your pipe and smoke it. ” On the ground that kind of behavior would be treated as reckless driving and the driver ticketed and fined. When do we get that kind of law enforcement in the GA airspace? Answer: when somebody really important or their family gets killed by such antics.

That’s right, Mr. James Brian Potter. But do You see, in the air or in airports, so many police authorities as You see on the roads in the ground? I wish they will exist! Because two, five, ten or twenty years in prison (according in playing guilt or not) will be deserved (like the other “thing” that jumpep out of the plane, let her crash on mountain site and later recovered the remains to be destroyed in small peaces not to be examined by NTSB.
