Oklahoma sets Red River Run Challenge for pilots

By General Aviation News Staff · July 13, 2023 ·

OKLAHOMA CITY — A new feature to the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission‘s Fly Oklahoma mobile app is an aeronautical challenge called the “Red River Run.”

In celebration of National Aviation Day and Oklahoma Aviation and Aerospace Day on Aug. 19, 2023, pilots are invited to complete the challenge by visiting at least seven airports listed in the challenge within a 24-hour period. Those who succeed will earn a custom patch from the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission.

Airports listed in the challenge include Hollis Municipal Airport (O35), Frederick Regional Airport (KFDR), Grandfield Municipal Airport (1O1), Healdton Municipal Airport (F32), Ardmore Downtown Executive Airport (1F0), Madill Municipal Airport (1F4), Durant Regional Airport-Eaker Field (KDUA), and Stan Stamper Municipal Airport (KHHW) in Hugo.

This airport challenge will run from Aug. 12-20, 2023.

Ardmore Downtown will host an event on Saturday, Aug. 12, for pilots to stop in as part of their trip, according to state aviation officials.

Pilots can find more information under the “Challenges” section on the app.

The Fly Oklahoma mobile app, which was released in July 2022, allows pilots to explore the Oklahoma Airport System, according to state aviation officials. The app also serves as a digital Airfield Directory (AFD), Recreational Aviation Directory, and a digital passport system that allows pilots to access airport information across the state of Oklahoma, compete to earn various badges upon visiting Oklahoma airports, and stay up to date with aviation events, officials explained.

To find out more about the app, go to Oklahoma.gov/Aerospace.
