Scenes from the Fall Festival of Flight

By General Aviation News Staff · December 24, 2023 ·

EAA Chapter 1556 held the 61st Fall Festival of Flight in October 2023 at Gainesville Municipal Airport (KGLE) in Texas.

It was rather cold and windy, but that didn’t stop just under 100 aircraft from attending the event, said Robert Hobbelman, who was on site and took these photos.

“This is most certainly an event I will be visiting again,” he added.

Where is that Carvair based? I used to see them fly out of KMIA back in the late 60’s, early 70’s.

Don’t know about that one, but another was close to an exploding ammo dump at Pochentong Airport, Phnom Penh, in the last days of the late Indochina War. A Khmer Route rocket started the blaze which spread rapidly. I photographed a soldier of fortune who said he had an interest in the craft desperately moving crates of ammo away from the flames. He gave up as ammo dump fires always have the same ending…a giant explosion. Blast debris holed the Carvair in many places. It never flew again.

So cool to see the Emigh Trojan! Used to be one of these rare aircraft in Anchorage.
