The magazine Travel+Leisure recently released its list of the 10 best aviation museums in the U.S.
It will probably come as no surprise that the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., tops the list.
And while there are other “of course this museum is on this list,” there are some that may surprise you, such as the #2 pick, the TWA Museum in Kansas City, Missouri.
See the full list for yourself here, then comment below with your favorite aviation museum.
TWA?? Really??
Have you ever been to New England Air Museum – it has been in existence since 1960, has the benefit of having volunteers from Pratt & Whitney, Collins Aerospace, Sikorsky just to name a few of the premier aviation companies in the USA.
I suggest a visit before your next list is published!!

Been to seven of the ten. Never heard of the TWA Museum for it to rank so high, looks to be smallish compared to the other nine. I thought it might’ve been the National Airline History Museum which is at the same airport but it wasn’t.
The WAAM museum in Hood River, Oregon has a remarkable collection of airplanes. Here is the link to their website. We were very impressed with the restorations and beauty of their collection. Great place. And incredibly the vast majority of their collection stills flies.

WAAAM Museum, Hood River OR!…..incredible collection of pre ww2 aircraft and cars, including an amazing array of 20’s and 30’s mail planes
I’ve been to 7 out of 10 of these museums. As a runner-up, I’d add the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, KS.
