Picture of the Day: Two oldies

By General Aviation News Staff · April 2, 2024 ·

Wayne Kyle submitted this photo and note: “Outside my hangar at Gainesville Municipal Airport (KGLE) in Texas: My 1947 Aeronca Chief and Miss 1944, a Carvair car hauler from the past. A lot of money was spent a few years ago trying to get the Carvair airworthy, but failed. It’s now a just a conversation piece and shade from the Texas sun.”

Anyone else think 747 when the picture appeared? I don’t think that I’ve ever seen that plane. Anyway, I like your Chief. I never flew one, but did fly several 7AC’s. My dad had one, N2081E, which I flew the begeebers out of. I did have access to a Cessna 140 which was pretty much like flying a Chief I imagine. My first log entry was in a Taylorcraft owned by an instructor. Ahh, those were great times for aviation. Lots of airplanes. airports, and lots of them in the pattern on the weekends.
