In 1973, scientists flew on Concorde 001 to chase the solar eclipse across Africa. Those scientists enjoyed 74 minutes of time inside the path of totality.
This 8-minute video shares the story well. Even the mid-video commercial is well placed.
Imagine, all this was done long before the magenta line we’ve all grown accustomed to.
Hat tip to Jason Kottke for pointing out this video.
Having just survived E-Mania in the Texas Hill Country, I was most intrigued (and entertained) by this short aviation science and history lesson. Also celebrating my senior year at TCU fifty years ago as an intern for the North Texas Commission which staged the grand opening of DFW with first landing of a Concorde on American soil. Quite a day!
I wonder if the top windows are still in Concord 001. Excellent video. Very educational for future generations of stargazers.
