Every year the Aerospace Center for Excellence on the SUN ‘n FUN campus at Lakeland Linder International Airport (KLAL) in Florida invites students at the Central Florida Aerospace Academy to participate in a leadership program known as Project Stratos.
For the past 10 years, Stallion 51 has selected one outstanding senior in the program for a special recognition: The “Flight Lead,” a student who has not only displayed leadership abilities, but also helped others reach their goals.
For 2024, the Flight Lead is Steven Tellmann.
An honors student at the Central Florida Aerospace Academy, Steven is a glider CFI and will be competing with team USA in Poland in the summer of 2024 at the Junior Gliding Championship.
“But above and beyond all his aviation accomplishments, Steven is a mentor to others, encouraging them in their aviation pursuits and leading by example, a true ‘flight lead,'” said officials with Stallion 51, which offers orientation flights and training in a variety of aircraft, including the P-51 Mustang.

Part of Steven’s prize was a flight with Stallion 51’s Lee Lauderback in the company’s dual cockpit-dual control Mustang, which took place on the last day of the 2024 SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo.
