An April 24, 2024, story in the Fort Madison Daily Democrat in Iowa notes “it was a somewhat unusual day at the Keokuk Municipal Airport (KEOK)” on April 20, when five pilots received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award: Cecil Schenk, Donald Lindholm, Arnold Spersflage, Dennis Morton, and Robert McDowell.
The award is given to pilots who have 50 years of safe flight, according to the FAA’s Jason Glass, who noted there are 108 recipients of the award in Iowa.
It’s worth the time to read the full story by Joe Benedict. It includes lots of stories from the veteran pilots, as well as a list of what it takes to qualify for the prestigious award.
