New kits aid in autopilot installation and repair

By General Aviation News Staff · May 9, 2024 ·

Two new autopilot cable tensioning tools for avionics dealers performing autopilot installation, troubleshooting, and repair are now available from EDMO Distributors.

The Sprague Instruments wireless Gripper digital cable tensiometer allows precise cable tension readings to be performed in tight, small space environments because the tension measurement “head” is a low-profile, streamlined, separate unit from the handheld display that features a backlit, flat faced LCD screen, according to company officials.

The handheld display and the tension head are wirelessly connected via a Bluetooth link, are both powered by Li-Po rechargeable batteries, and can be recharged together using the supplied dual charger, officials added.

Three separate kits are available: A bridal cable kit covering three cable sizes (1/16, 3/32, 1/8) with a tension range of 10-30 pounds; a control cable kit covering five cable sizes (1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, 3/16) and a tension range of 10-150 pounds; and a kit that includes both tension heads with a single display.

Also available is the Genesys AeroSystems Bridal Cable Adjustment Tool Kit, an accompaniment to the bridal cable kit. The adjustment kit includes four cable clamps sized for 3/32, 1/8, 5/32, and 3/16 control cables, along with an L-Bracket and a 3/16 Hex Bolt. Using the correct clamp for the control cable size and installing it outside of the bridal cable clamp, the L-Bracket and Hex Bolt can then be used to draw the bridal cable to the correct tightness using the Gripper tensiometer to set the proper bridal cable tension, company officials explained.

The Genesys Bridal Cable Adjustment Tool Kit is universal and not limited only to use on Genesys (S-Tec) autopilots, officials added.
