Sheltair expands to KSRQ

By General Aviation News Staff · May 13, 2024 ·

Sheltair is expanding its FBO network to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (KSRQ) in Florida.

Sheltair officially broke ground on the new private aviation complex April 30, 2024, with plans to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2025.

It is Sheltair’s 17th FBO and 13th in Florida, according to company officials.

Sheltair’s decision to expand to KSRQ was driven by the “airport’s robust business and general aviation flight activity, as well as the demand for based aircraft storage opportunities,” company officials said.

The airport’s rapid growth necessitated a third FBO at KSRQ, according to Rick Piccolo, president and CEO of Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.

Sheltair’s development at KSRQ includes a 10,705-square-foot terminal with 15 acres of apron space that will have a large airside canopy. The FBO will include waiting areas, crew rest facilities, and conference rooms, as well as two new hangars.

Sheltair’s investment at KSRQ tops $40 million, company officials added.

In the coming years, Sheltair officials said they plan to unveil future expansion plans at KSRQ, including development of a 60,000-square-foot aircraft MRO facility and up to four additional hangars at more than 20,000 square feet each.
