Photographer John Slemp’s book, “Bomber Boys: WWII Flight Jacket Art,” has been named “Fashion Book of the Year” by the Ivy Style fashion blog.

In choosing Slemp’s book, the blog notes: “Bomber Boys, by John Slemp, is an archive, it is a history book, it is a work of art, it weighs more than I do, and it is the best fashion book of the year. Bomber Boys is a collection of transcendent photography of American A-2 flight jackets, the art that adorns them, the stories of the men who wore them, and an essay on their impact on American fashion.”

The book features 104 jackets, photographed in 12 different museums across the USA, including the Smithsonian Air & Space museum, the 390th Memorial Museum, and the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

There are more than 20 contemporary portraits of World War II veterans, including the Tuskegee Airmen and Women Airforce Service Pilots. Veteran stories accompany the images, many of which have never been published before, Slemp notes.

A big book at six pounds and 12 inches square, this collectible also has been awarded silver in two prestigious international design competitions.
