STC revision boosts Caravan power

By General Aviation News Staff · June 7, 2024 ·

MT-Propeller has received a revision to its EASA STC for the Cessna 208 Caravan Model 208 and 208B powered by a Honeywell TPE331-12JR propeller turbine with a 5-blade MT-Propeller.

With this revision, Caravans with a 5-blade MT-Propeller are now certified for a power rating up to 950 shp, said officials with the German company.

According to MT-Propeller Vice President Martin Albrecht, installation of the 5-blade propeller on the Cessna 208 features several advantages, including:

  • 60% vibration reduction on aircraft fuselage
  • Approximately 31 pounds less weight than the original propeller
  • Ground roll reduced by 10%, approximately 164 feet
  • Climb improved by 5% to 8%

Due to the smaller diameter, the MT-Propeller for the Cessna 208 has more ground clearance for less blade tip erosion and FODs compared to the original propeller, company officials added.

The revision of the FAA STC is in progress.
