I have simple needs for a GPS-moving map tablet. So, I use an 8 inch, $90 Android tablet and run the free Avare vfr chart software. [ updates are also free ]
It gives me a backup on heading and altitude, and gives the only data on ground speed, vs pilotage and timing between check points.
BTW, I also still fly with a paper chart with my route marked and my initial descent point marked….it avoids the ‘chop and drop’ situations.
So, $800+ seems a bit expensive, plus a $95 annual subscription..!
