Steve Kennedy, a glider pilot with Red Wing Soaring Association at L.O. Simenstad Municipal Airport (KOEO) in Osceola, Wisconsin, writes: “Gliders readying for tow at Region 7 Glider Regatta at Albert Lea Airport (KAEL) in Minnesota, May 2024.”
Steve continues: “Overcast moved in quickly from the west. Sixteen launched. Some struggled to stay airborne and landed back at KAEL, none wanted a re-light. A couple started their engine and motored back. Four made it around the task and back home. Five landed out.
“I crewed with Ken Sorenson and Tony Condon to retrieve Dick Andrews and Paul Remde. They negotiated with a farmer to pull them from the middle of a corn field and up onto a high narrow gravel road. De-rigged with the glider sideways to the trailer. Always interesting and fun!”
