FBO network Sheltair Aviation has begun construction of “much-needed” T-hangars at Melbourne Orlando International Airport (KMLB) in Florida, according to company officials.

The structure — totaling more than 34,500 square feet — will include 30 T-hangars able to accommodate single and light twin aircraft.

Situated on nearly 4.5 acres of apron space, the new hangar complex also includes two restrooms and 37 parking spaces for cars and trucks.

The project is expected to take approximately 15 months to complete.

“The ability to accommodate an additional 30 smaller aircraft with new T-hangar facilities will be an invaluable asset to our Melbourne operation,” said Todd Anderson, Chief Operating Officer of Sheltair.

“The Melbourne Orlando International Airport recognizes the importance of general aviation to KMLB’s success and is pleased to partner with Sheltair to provide new T-hangars for our GA community,” said Greg Donovan, executive director at the airport.

At an unbelievable hight monthly rent I’m will to bet. Just because there is demand doesn’t mean they should charge $700-1k or more a month for a t-hanger for a 4 place aircraft! No wonder why people are getting out of GA. We actually have long term tenants selling their aircraft and leaving GA because of the hight rent in instead of letting it sit outside in the elements. I know of examples where rent has doubled in 3 years. My boat slip (40’) only runs 525 a month and that includes electric and cable TV. Just saying. I may be selling my plane next year because they have no availability on the ramp to even keep it on a tiedown.
