Celebrity makes its way to museum

By General Aviation News Staff · September 7, 2024 · Leave a Comment

FARGO, N.D. — The North American F-86 Sabre, the celebrity to be honored at the Fargo Air Museum’s 16th annual Celebrity Dinner & Auction, has made the journey to Fargo with the help of community partners and volunteers.

The Sabre was previously on display at the Jamestown, North Dakota, airport. High Power Crane, Industrial Builders Inc., and community volunteers helped in the transport of the military jet.

“The Fargo Air Museum is honored to be the new home of the North American F-86H Sabre #53-1253,” said Max Sabin, Fargo Air Museum’s Collections Manager. “Over the course of the winter, the F-86 will be reassembled and stored in anticipation of its eventual restoration to static display and mounting in front of the Fargo Air Museum’s Main Hangar along 19th Avenue.”

The Sabre’s new paint scheme will honor Fargo Air Museum co-founder and longtime member of the North Dakota Air National Guard, the late Maj. General Darrol Schroeder.

The aircraft arrived one week before the Sept. 12, 2024, Celebrity Dinner & Auction, the Fargo Air Museum’s annual fundraiser.

The non-profit Fargo Air Museum, founded with the mission of promoting aviation through education, preservation, and restoration, is home to aircraft of all eras.
