ROCK HILL, S.C. — Rock Hill-York County Airport (KUZA) is celebrating 65 years of flight with an open house presented by ACES Flight School.
The free, family-friendly event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to airport officials, there will be exhibits, a skydiving demonstration by Skydive Carolina, fly-overs by a variety of unique aircraft, a Rock Hill Cruisers Car show, food truck vendors, and more.
In the 1950s, Rock Hill recognized the need for a modern airport to replace Roddey Field. In 1956, the Rock Hill-York County Aviation Commission, led by Dr. H. H. Plemmons, selected a 364-acre site for the new airport. Rock Hill City Council approved the land purchase in March 1957, and construction started soon after. The airport, initially named Rock Hill Municipal Airport, opened in October 1959 and has undergone numerous expansions and name changes.
Today, the Rock Hill-York County Airport is an essential general aviation reliever facility, spanning 495 acres with a 5,500-foot runway, according to airport officials. It is home base for 185 aircraft, the second most in South Carolina, and handles more than 50,000 operations annually.
“It’s important to remember where you came from to guide where you are going,” said Airport Director Steven Gould. “The planning and investment in airport improvements throughout the years have been key.”
In advance of the open house, the airport has unveiled a new logo featuring the KUZA FAA code and elements conveying flight.

“The sky is the limit for UZA,” Gould said. “A mile of runway can take you almost anywhere in the world.”
