More opportunities for Young Eagles through updated Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — Kids who fly as part of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Young Eagles program will have access to an improved benefit, as long-time partner Sporty’s has made several updates to its Learn to Fly course.

The course uses real-world-video and 3D animations to teach the basics of flight and is available to all Young Eagles free of charge as part of their membership, EAA officials explain.

Sporty’s has offered the Learn to Fly Course to Young Eagles for free for more than 15 years. Since the beginning of the partnership, 155,000 Young Eagles have registered for the course.

The Learn to Fly Course also serves as an integral part of the five-step Young Eagles Flight Plan, a pathway to guide youth on their aviation journey. Young Eagles can earn a free flight lesson voucher upon completion of the first three modules of the course, according to EAA officials.

New features added to the Sporty’s Learn to Fly course include:

• Interactive exercises: Instrument simulators, chart quizzes, and detailed systems diagrams provide students with a new way to apply what they learn with each lesson.
• Smart Notes: A new tool giving users the ability to add and keep track of notes for all video lessons with clickable links to direct users back to the lesson.
• FAR Study Guides: For 2024, time-saving tools were added to the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) study guide to highlight specific sections that are applicable to each certificate level.
• Interactive Airman Certification Standards (2024 Update): The Learn to Fly course now features an interactive version of the latest Private Pilot Airman Certification Standards (ACS).

Along with new features being introduced, several video lessons received updates as well to reflect changes in technology and training techniques. Updates were made to the Flight Operations, Maximum Performance Operations, and Aviation Weather sections.

The test prep section also gained improvements. More than 50 new questions were added to the database to coincide with recent FAA updates to the test. Three new study modes and a question search function were introduced to allow students to focus their study time on specific subjects.
