The Mile High chapter of Women Aviation International (WAI) recently held a fun fundraiser: A “pin-up” photo shoot with a vintage airplane.
On Oct. 25, 2024, the Sheltair FBO at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport (KBJC) in Broomfield, Colorado, hosted the photo shoot for area pilots, as well as anyone else who wanted to join the fun.
It was a beautiful autumn day with the Commemorative Air Force’s Mile High Chapter’s Beech SNB-5 “Sonoran Beauty” playing backdrop to the participants, along with the KBJC tower and the Rocky Mountains behind.

“We gambled on the weather,” said WAI member and event organizer Gina Moretto. “We definitely want to do this again.”
She noted that the last time they tried this fundraiser it was on a weekend and all the time slots were filled. Not so in 2024, when scheduling the event on a Friday hurt participation.
“We will do it on a weekend next time,” she said. “People do work, and this was a weekday. Pilots have schedules all over the place.”

Moretto is an A&P, FAAST Safety Team Member, Part 107 UAS pilot, and “decades-long” member of WAI. This event fits in well with her collection of 1940s and 1950s clothing and accessories, she noted.

Photography was provided by aviation photographer Laura Konersman, who donated her services.
Participants ranged from 10 months old to “of a certain age,” and everyone reportedly had a great time.

Very nice to see my former SNB-5 doing well in the Rocky Mountain Mile High Squadron. I do miss flying her around the US and Alaska. Best of luck and “Keep them Flying”
