Starman Bros. Auctions is handling the sale of the Luscombe Aircraft Corp. in Jamestown, N.Y.

Bidding ends Dec. 19, 2024, at 1 p.m. EST for the sale, which includes “the entire Luscombe Aircraft Corp. aircraft factory being sold as one package, including Type Certificate, STCs, jigs, shop equipment, tools, molds, new inventory, etc.,” according to officials with the auction house.

The auctioneers note that the factory, which is on the grounds of Jamestown Airport (KJHW) will be open for in-person inspections from Dec. 9 through Dec. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The sale ends the plans of Steve Testrake and Stephen Young, who acquired the Luscombe assets in June of 2019. They created the new company to manufacture parts for the Luscombe, as well as build new aircraft.

Does anyone know the result of the auction? Who won, how much?

The Luscombe 8 was always a superb aircraft. The first practical light GA aircraft that used the newly introduced small Continental opposed engines. I was fortunate to be a partner in a 1947 A/E and I thoroughly enjoyed the excellent flying characteristics. Somebody smart should pick this up and re-introduce it to the LSA market. They are good to go just the way they are.

Reminds me of plans to resurrect Taylorcraft in Lock Haven, PA back in the late 1980’s.
