Longtime pilot and businessman named AOPA chairman

By General Aviation News Staff · December 17, 2024 · Leave a Comment

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Board of Trustees has elected Jim Hauslein as its new chairman.

He succeeds Bill Trimble III, who is retiring at the end of 2024. Trimble has served on the AOPA board since 1993 and as chairman since 2005. He will continue to serve as a trustee, according to AOPA officials.

According to AOPA President and CEO Mark Baker, Hauslein’s experience in aviation and business make him a great candidate for the chairmanship.

“AOPA members will benefit for years to come from his leadership,” Baker said.

Hauslein has been an AOPA member since 1987 and has held a private pilot certificate since 1996. He has over 2,500 flight hours and has earned instrument, seaplane, and multiengine ratings. Hauslein also holds a commercial pilot certificate and type ratings in the Cessna Citation 500 and 525 models. He has owned several aircraft, including a Cessna 172, a Beech Bonanza A36, and several Cessna Citations.

Hauslein is the president of Hauslein & Company, a private investment firm. He previously served as chairman and CEO of Sunglass Hut International for over 10 years and chairman and CEO of Big Time Products.
