Portable altimeter with alarm introduced

By General Aviation News Staff · February 6, 2025 · 1 Comment

Radiant Technology has introduced a portable altimeter, called SafeAlt, designed for use by pilots and passengers to increase safety of flight in three scenarios, according to company officials.

For general aviation pilots, it provides a backup to panel-mounted altimeters and VSI gauges in an easy-to-use, USB rechargeable, portable device, officials noted.

For corporate pilots in pressurized aircraft, it provides a visual and aural alarm if altitude de-pressurization occurs.

For passengers on commercial aircraft, it provides a visual and aural alarm if cabin altitude slowly exceeds a set value (indicating a failure of the aircraft to pressurize) or rapid decompression occurs (also indicating a pressure failure), company officials explain.

Technical Specifications

  • Altimeter range: 0 to 20,000 feet (will not show negative altitude values nor values above 20,000 feet).
  • Pressure Alarm: Preset at 10,000 feet. User adjustable.
  • Dimmable for use in low light.
  • Aural alarm when pressure alarm value is exceeded.
  • Visual alarm appears on screen when pressure alarm value is exceeded.
  • Altimeter display type: Analog dual needle representation supplemented by digital value.
  • VSI display type: Analog single needle supplemented by digital value.
  • Kollsman window: Digital. (This allows fine-tuning the altitude to match local barometric variation and is not used when monitoring cabin pressure altitude.)

Price: $99.95.

An optional holster is available for mounting in a 3-1/8 inch standard panel cutout for $49.95.
