A new FAA program allows aircraft owners to request that personal information be kept private, including their name and address.
Advocated for by general aviation advocacy groups, including the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), and included in the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, the program went into effect March 28, 2025.
Pilots can now submit a request through the Civil Aviation Registry Electronic Services (CARES) to have their information withheld from public display on all FAA websites.
“This program is long overdue and a significant win for pilot privacy,” said AOPA President and CEO Darren Pleasance.
“Security is a huge issue for companies large and small, all across the country, which is one of the reasons Congress passed bipartisan legislation requiring the FAA to strengthen the protections for aircraft ownership information and flight-data,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We are pleased with the steps the FAA has taken to protect entrepreneurs and businesses.”
