New angle of attack system receives FAA nod

By General Aviation News Staff · June 4, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Holy Micro!, known for its talking AGL altimeters and voice alert systems — the SkyVoice Alert 500 and SkyVoice Glassy Guide 400 (often called “Bitching Betty” or “Barking Bob” by pilots) — has received FAA NORSEE approval for its newest product: the Absolute AoA system.

Introduced in March 2025, Absolute AoA offers “real-time, accurate Angle of Attack data for all phases of flight — takeoff, climb, cruise, and landing — enhancing safety, efficiency, and pilot confidence far beyond just stall prevention,” according to company officials.

Utilizing multiple sensors, the system calculates and calibrates a normalized pressure ratio, an accurate method validated through extensive studies and flight tests, company official explained.

“This technology ensures dependable AoA indications, unaffected by density altitude, loading conditions, or flap settings,” company officials said. “As a result, pilots receive accurate data not just near stall speed, but also across key V-speeds including Vx, Vy, and Best Glide.”

NORSEE (Non-Required Safety Enhancing Equipment) approval is a process by the FAA to allow the installation of safety-enhancing equipment on aircraft that is not mandated by regulations, but is intended to improve safety.

A patent is pending on the product, which is priced at $2,650, according to company officials.
