The Eliminate Aviation Gasoline Lead Emissions (EAGLE) initiative has introduced a new interactive toolkit to help general aviation keep track of the status of the transition to unleaded fuel.
Introduced in June 2025, the toolkit includes information to help keep those who are impacted by the transition — from fuel producers and distributors to airports, FBOs, pilots, aircraft owners, and mechanics — “track the transition and assess its scope, scale, and impact,” according to EAGLE officials.
The new interactive toolkit, available at flyEAGLE.org, offers regularly updated insights into the U.S. piston fleet, fuel infrastructure, airport fuel availability, 100LL production and logistics, sales volumes, per-capita data, and more.
“The toolkit is searchable, sortable, visual — and most importantly — designed to clarify how the transition is unfolding across the national aviation landscape,” officials explained.
What’s available now:
- Airport Fuel Availability: U.S. airports offering 100LL, UL94, mogas, or G100UL
- Refinery & Distribution Map: Current avgas production and distribution network
- Sales Volume & History: State-by-state and national fuel usage back to the 1960s
- Piston Aircraft Registry: Ability to search by airframe or engine to assess fleet eligibility
- Mechanics & IA Capacity: Data to understand workforce availability for compliance
- Per Capita Fuel Usage: Information to identify heavy-use states like Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming
- Piston Aviation Fuel Initiative (PAFI) Progress
The site also provides a summary of the FAA’s Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative (PAFI) fleet authorization process and the testing status of the LyondellBasell/VP Racing high-octane unleaded aviation gasoline (UL100E). The data highlights progress across testing areas, including detonation and performance, durability, flight testing, and materials compatibility with components such as O-rings, OEM wing tanks, and paint.

Also useful is https://www.pure-gas.org/, showing currently over 17,000 sellers of ethanol-free gasoline, aka mogas, an FAA-approved fuel that can power 80% of the legacy piston fleet and virtually all new aircraft engines including all from the world’s leading maker of aircraft engines, Rotax.
What we really need is more availability of UL91 or UL94 fuel because the majority of the piston aircraft fleet is already approved to use it, no STC required.
We are ready now and don’t what to wait for the considerably more expensive UL100 fuel which we don’t need for our airplanes.
Outside of the United States they have already moved on and have this product available now.
