Run the runway at Chicago’s oldest airport

By General Aviation News Staff · June 21, 2025 · Leave a Comment

More than 1,000 aviation fans and runners are expected to run a 5K on the runway at Chicago’s oldest airport, Chicago Executive Airport (KPWK), on June 28, 2025.

The airport, which will celebrate its centennial in 2026, will become a no-fly zone for the duration of the race, according to organizers.

The day includes awards for the runners, music, fireworks, food, photos with Elsa and Spiderman, an up-close look at a hot air balloon, and small aircraft on display.

Gates open at 7 a.m. with the race taking off at 8 a.m. Registration is required.

KPWK, the fourth‐busiest airport in Illinois, is a reliever for the region, including Chicago O’Hare. Primary users of the airport include three FBOs, flight schools, corporate travelers, and general aviation.
