It is rather unsettling that the left engine on the aircraft was actively destroying itself and the resulting vibration was mostly imperceptible. I assumed that “thrown rod” incidents would always include a loud bang and a cacophony of noise and vibration.
Discovery flight goes awry
Immediately after touchdown, the discovery flight customer held the left brake, sending the plane aggressively to the east side of the runway and into the grass.

I descended to 2,500 feet and between 30 seconds to 1 minute later the aircraft passed directly over me. ADS-B said 300 feet above. Based on the frantic tone and jumbled radio calls with Tower when they were cleared for takeoff, I believe this was a rusty pilot with poor situational awareness.
Dangerous and unacceptable behavior
I spoke with the pilot of Aircraft Y, and he seemed unconcerned that he almost hit us mid air and honestly seemed bothered that I would bring up the situation in person.

I believe due to the high traffic area the helicopter may have not seen us and referred to another Cessna, resulting in him beginning his turning climb directly into our path. I wouldn’t imagine the pilot knowingly would have done that.
Musketeer goes off runway after student freezes on the controls
The student wouldn’t relinquish controls and continued to lock the brakes and freeze on the throttle all while I was calling for control of the airplane. We ran into the grass and slid to a stop with both brakes locked up.
Training flight ends with sputtering engine
I have always wondered if I’d freeze or forget things in a situation like that and my training really kicked in. My safety pilot said he never felt nervous or afraid and I sounded like a pro. On the inside I felt pretty calm and in troubleshooting and flying mode. But when I landed I got out of the plane and was shaking.
Pilot on wrong frequency causes near miss on runway
After he landed I was very upset he didn’t have his radio on. Also that he didn’t see us until after he touched down.
