Gerald Griggs submitted this photo and note: “This is my Piper J-5 in a forward slip to a landing at Lake Waltanna Airport (SN65) near Goddard, Kansas. That’s me in the front seat. The photo was taken by Captain Greg Ross, a B-737 captain who was receiving his first ride in a tailwheel airplane. He was amazed how well the Cub descends during a forward slip.”
Photo of the Day
Picture of the Day: The colors of fall from 1,500 feet
Shawn Bennett submitted this photo and note: “Fall flying in my Rans S6S over East Central Illinois out of KDNV. I’m purely a Light Sport recreational pilot. I set a goal for myself to fly seven days in a row while surpassing the 300 hour total flight time. This was the scenery that greeted me on day seven. I did cross the 300 hour mark. A beautiful day all around.”
Picture of the Day: Worth it
Brandon Lincoln submitted this photo and note: “Early morning sunrise makes the 4:45 a.m. wakeup worth it. Student hours 13 and 14.”
Picture of the Day: A menace on the ramp
Gary Lanthrum submitted this photo and note: “This Yak 3 was visiting the Port Townsend Aero Museum in Washington state, looking menacing on the ramp. It was almost more of a draw out on the ramp than the airplanes inside the museum.”
Picture of the Day: V-Tail visit to Wings of Honor Museum
Andrew Hesketh submitted this photo and note: “I flew to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, from St. Louis, Missouri, to visit the Wings of Honor Museum located on the field at Walnut Ridge Airport (KARG). Also had a nice $100 lunch at Don’s Steakhouse, a short ride away in the FBO’s crew car. Great day for summer flying.”
Picture of the Day: A mind-bending message
Albert Dyer submitted this photo and note: “I decided to have an evening dinner at an airport that has a restaurant. At about five miles away I flew past this message. A bit of foreshadowing or mind-bending? Of course, I had to check the dessert menu because the message became like the jingle that once heard you can’t seem to push it out of your mind!”
Picture of the Day: Over the moon
William Vergonet submitted this photo and note: “This grandfather was over the moon to take his granddaughter flying. I was lucky enough to capture the moment when they returned. They both couldn’t have had bigger smiles! When I presented the grandfather with these pictures he teared up and said, ‘Now these are moving, thank you so much!’ I could not have been happier as the mechanic of this aircraft and the photographer.”
Picture of the Day: Fall Colorado mountain flying
Shahn Sederberg submitted this photo and note: “Fall is one of the best times of the year to experience mountain flying in Colorado. This photo depicts Brian Beatty flying his 2022 AirVenture Bronze Lindy Award-winning kit champion RV-7 with the quaking golden Aspen trees beneath. In the passenger seat is Colorado Division of Aeronautics Aviation Education & Outreach Specialist Hetty Carlson.”
Picture of the Day: A serendipitous landing
Geoff Nicholson submitted this photo and note: “While performing acceptance flight testing of our newest SeaRey LSA, our test pilot Dan Nickens decided to take a break in this Florida lake. The scene turned out to be so amazing that he memorialized it with this photo.”
