Megan Vande Voort submitted these two photos of airplanes heading home after the close of the 2022 SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo on Sunday, April 10. Above, a 1944 Consolidated Vultee PBY based out of Wilmington, Delaware, takes off, while below a Cessna 172 departs Lakeland Linder International Airport (KLAL) in Florida.

Picture of the Day: Taking off in Paradise City
While the Thunderbirds claimed top billing at the 2022 SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo, some of the most interesting flying at the show takes place in Paradise City, home to a grass runway and light-sport aircraft, ultralights, and the STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) Demos. In this photo, Megan Vande Voort captures an Evolution Rev taking off — a photo she named “and she’s up.”
Pictures of the Day: The stars of the show
While ace photographer Megan Vande Voort captured some of her usual great photographs of the Thunderbirds at the 2022 SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo, she also caught some unexpected shots, as well, including one of the demo team’s biggest (and littlest) fans.
Pictures of the Day: Kicking the tires
Airshows like the 2022 SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo, which ran April 5-10, provide a great opportunity for pilots and aviation enthusiasts to get up close to the aircraft they dream of owning one day. Photographer Jim Roberts sent in this collection of photos, snapped during one day on the SUN ‘n FUN grounds at Lakeland Linder International Airport (KLAL) in Florida.
Pictures of the Day: High-flying performances at SUN ‘n FUN 2022

Picture of the Day: Setting up camp at SUN ‘n FUN 2022
Jim Roberts submitted these photos of two families at the 2022 SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo — one had already set up camp by opening day, while the other was just arriving.
Picture of the Day: Sunbathing taildraggers
Ryan Weir submitted this photo and note: “Clint and Andrea Cawley’s 1948 Cessna 140 (left), Dale Weir’s 1953 Cessna 170, Ryan Weir’s 1954 Cessna 180, and Glenn Smith’s 1950 Cessna 195 bask in the late March 2022 Pacific Northwest sun at Cawleys South Prairie Airport (02WA) in Washington.”
Picture of the Day: Sun AND Fun even though it was overcast
With SUN ‘n FUN 2022 kicking off April 5, we thought it would be a good time to run Dave Cohen’s photo he submitted: “Dave Cohen, flying with the AeroShell Team at SUN ‘n FUN 2021 in Lakeland, Florida. The clouds departed by noon and the sky was full of nothing but aircraft.”
Picture of the Day: Moose Camp
Rob Hansen submitted this photo and note: “This photo of Ginger, a 1951 Piper Pacer, was taken at moose camp located in West Cook Inlet, Alaska. It’s not much of a landing area, but the blueberries are worth it.”
