Burt Compton landing his Open Class Schempp-Hirth Cirrus sailplane with drag chute deployed at Marfa Gliders Soaring Center Airport (KMRF) in southwest Texas. The chute allows for shorter landing distances on an off-airport field landing, occasionally necessary in cross-country glider flying when the thermal (or ridge or wave) lift might fade at the end of the day.”
