By General Aviation News Staff · October 5, 2007 ·

D-JET S/N 002 recently had its first flight at Diamond Aircraft’s facility in London, Ontario. The 43-minute flight was conducted by Daniel Ribeiro, chief test pilot. Chase was flown by Giorgio Clementi, flight test manager, in D-JET S/N 001. The flight was called a milestone by Diamond President Peter Maurer, who noted that S/N 002 […]

An Epic investment

By General Aviation News Staff · October 5, 2007 ·

Rick Schrameck, president and CEO of high performance airplane manufacturer Epic Aircraft, announced a partnership with Indian billionaire Dr. Vijay Mallya at the NBAA convention Sept. 25. The deal gives Epic the ability to “accelerate the process of bringing the company’s growing line of aircraft to the certified market, as well as strengthening its relationships […]

What the well-dressed airplane wears?

By General Aviation News Staff · October 5, 2007 ·

It is not unusual to see notes left on airplanes during AirVenture, but intimate articles of clothing are something else all together, which is why this red brassiere caught our eye. We’re not sure if it was placed there as an invitation, a statement or something else — perhaps a way of protecting the cowling?

The racer’s choice

By General Aviation News Staff · October 5, 2007 ·

With the completion of the 44th annual Reno Air Races (see story on page 27) and the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends in Columbus, Ohio, (see that story in our next issue), the P-51 has gotten a lot of attention in the last few weeks. During World War II, the P-51 Mustang earned a reputation […]

Buzzzzzz

By General Aviation News Staff · October 5, 2007 ·

“It was a joy to take the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina and redeem the situation.”” – Avemco Insurance Co.’s Jim Lauerman, on the company’s donation of $1.25 million in airplanes inundated with salt water after Hurricane Katrina to the Build A Plane program, which donates planes to schools so kids can learn about aviation. “You […]

Do clothes make the controller?

By Meg Godlewski · October 5, 2007 ·

“Cessna 123, cleared for takeoff, runway 13L.” Do you really care what the person issuing the instructions is wearing? I don’t. But apparently the FAA does. All across the country air traffic controllers are being disciplined for dress code violations. Some of the male controllers have rebelled by wearing dresses. Given the problems the FAA […]

What are financial paybacks to flight data monitoring

By General Aviation News Staff · October 5, 2007 ·

In the Sept, 7 issue of GAN, Meg Godlewski’s article on Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) for general aviation (Can a GA “black box” prevent accidents?) does a nice job of covering the subject. I’m the source of the “don’t call it a black box” inset, and I would like to add one more paragraph on […]

The same old song and dance

By General Aviation News Staff · October 5, 2007 ·

After receiving a sample copy of GAN, I subscribed. I have not read many aviation journals until yours arrived. My aviation career spanned more than 40 years as a captain, DPE, FBO, etc., etc. Alas, my medical is history. So I now cruise around in the cockpit of a 1953 MG. I’d like to comment […]

ADS-B not the first

By General Aviation News Staff · October 5, 2007 ·

In the story, FAA to expand ADS-B nationwide in the Aug. 24 issue, it says that ADS-B promises to increase situational awareness for all pilots because, for the first time, pilots will be able to see real-time displays of traffic. Does no one else remember reading of the experiment at Atlanta wherein the approach control […]
