Aircraft Spruce now carries a new experimental aircraft cabin heater, the Neat Heater.
Manufactured by Light Sport Technologies, the Neat Heater is compact in size, measuring less than 8 inches square and 4 inches in depth. The 300 CFM fan draws only 3.4 amps. This heat system, designed specifically for Light Sport and Ultralight Aircraft, installs easily in any aircraft with a liquid0cooled powerplant, according to company officials.
Price: $372.

Basically, this is a CPU water cooler that averages $65 ($15 to $120 depending on brand). It even has all three fan wires, and they coil up the yellow wire since it’s unused. The radiator is about 6.5″ which means the fan is probably a 120mm fan. No info available on whether it’s double ball-bearing, or simply a sleeve bearing, but there’s a 1yr warranty on it.
The Brian Harrington, the manufacturer of this, claims “patent pending”; however, there’s a tremendous amount of prior art for using a glycol+water radiator and electric fan for the transport of heat. Worst case, an alternate part would have to be called a cockpit mounted engine cooler. 🙂
Still, kudos and props to Mr. Harrington.
