A run of bad weather — including numerous heavy, wet snowfalls that left several inches of water trapped below the snow and above the frozen surface of New Hampshire’s Lake Winipisakee — has forced the volunteers who operate the only ice runway in the United States to declare the season over, according to a report at AOPA.org, which notes the runway did not open to traffic this year.

There are other states that pilots utilize ice runways on frozen lakes to land on. Maybe the article met New Hampshire, instead of United States. Or. Maybe the Runway is an designated airport? But it definitely is not the only Ice runway by far.
The only “Ice Runway” in the United States? Have you ever heard of Alaska? The 49th state? We have ice runways all over the state every winter. One or more on every lake with a cabin. They probably number in the hundreds.
