Auction returns to Sun ‘n Fun

By Janice Wood · March 3, 2011 ·

AvBid Aircraft Auctions (AvBid) will hold a two-day aviation auction March 30-31 during Sun ‘n Fun at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport (LAL) in Lakeland, Florida. Officials from AvBid said the two-day auction will include both piston and turbine-powered aircraft and will be streamed live via the Internet to a worldwide audience.

The Sun ’n Fun event will be the first of a bimonthly auction schedule as AvBid continues its auction activities on LAL and its year-round operation. “We are excited about the opportunity to work with Sun ’n Fun in this endeavor,” AvBid President Don Stephens commented. “The Sun ’n Fun International Fly-In and Expo provides a perfect venue for all things related to aviation. The people, pilots and staff have made Sun ‘n Fun the place to be every spring.”

When asked about the timing of the auction Stephens stated, “The current economic climate is causing many aircraft owners, municipalities, and institutional lenders to sell their aircraft in a more expedient manner,” he said. “We believe our auctions will facilitate those sales, which will also create phenomenal opportunities for potential buyers.”

In order to help current and prospective aircraft buyers better understand the auction process, AvBid will be presenting a forum on the dynamics of an aircraft auction on Tuesday morning, March 29, at 10:05 a.m., in Room 8, during the Sun ‘n Fun 2011 Forums. This year the forums are located in the new Central Florida Aerospace Academy on the Sun ’n Fun campus.

Stephens explained, “Our staff will help potential sellers obtain the maximum possible value for their aircraft in a very short period of time. In fact a sale can be made and closed in the same day. Buyers benefit by virtue of only paying one bid more than the previous bidder. It really is a win-win situation”

All types of aircraft will be offered at auction, including single-engine piston, helicopters, warbirds and corporate jets. Aircraft can be flown in and shown live in AvBid’s customized hanger showroom, or AvBid has established procedures for sellers to submit videos and photographs of their respective aircraft to be shown on the AvBid website, and on jumbo screens during the live auctions.

AvBid Customer Service Manager Sam Sirani commented, “When you put quality aircraft, qualified buyers and motivated sellers in the mix together you get a very synergized sales event. Every bid builds off the last and aircraft find their way to a new owner very quickly. It is really a fun and exciting process.”

The bidding process has also been simplified so that bids can be made live at the auction, on-line, or by phone, he added.

Stephens said he expects a large contingent of buyers from South America, especially Brazil.

AvBid has arranged for all the necessary services required for a complete sale right on the field, including pre-buy inspections, avionics work, ferry service, insurance coverage and professional assistance with title/ownership transfer.

Applications to register as a seller or bidder can be completed by calling Sam Sirani at 888-420-4243 or at AvBidAircraftAuctions.com
