This January, attendees of the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo looking for what’s new and cutting edge in the LSA world will have plenty to see. SeaMax America, Pipistrel USA, U.S. Sport Aircraft, and Flight Design USA will all have new aircraft on display.
SeaMax America, the exclusive importer for the only FAA Certified Flying Boat S-LSA, the SeaMax M-22, will be bringing this amphibious aircraft to the show at Sebring Regional Airport in Florida.
Pipistrel USA will have The Pipistrel Sinus on display. Says Michael Coates, Pipstrel USA, “This is the new model with removable wingtips. We will also have the Pipistrel Virus on display, as well as one or two other aircraft on the flight line for demonstration.”
US Sport Aircraft is flying in its new SportCruiser Classic and new Dynon SkyView equipped SportCruiser SVA. “We also have several planes, including a few PiperSports in stock and available for immediate delivery,” stated Don Ayres, US Sport Aircraft.
Flight Design USA is planning on having a CTLS SkyView equipped airplane for demos. The plane is for sale and is only one of two SkyView equipped planes not in private hands. Flight Design will also have a CTLE (Law Enforcement/public use) aircraft from Echo Flight Resources and Airtime Aviation of Tulsa. This will be the first showing of the public service aircraft in Florida. The Dynon D100/120 equipped aircraft and the Metal Composite MC are also scheduled to be at the show.
As a part of the EAA display at the main entrance gate, EAA is bringing in its fully restored Piper J3 Cub Sweepstakes Plane. Attendees will have an opportunity to enter to win the J3 Cub or one of six other prizes.
The Grand Prize includes not only the J3 Cub Airplane, but also the following: TrickAir Sport 1500 Snow Skis including installation; and $2,500 of flight lessons by Cub Air Flight of Hartford, Wisconsin. Second Prize is a Sea-Doo RXT-X watercraft, Third Prize is 750 square feet of RaceDeck Diamond Tile Hangar Flooring from SnapLock Industries; Fourth Prize is a Bose Lifestyle 235 Home Entertainment System; Fifth Prize is a Hamilton Men’s Khaki UTC Watch; Sixth Prize is a ICOM VHF Air Band Transceiver.
Opening ceremonies will take place at 10 am on Thursday, Jan. 19, with the color guard, patriotic melodies, and a salute to EXPO 2012 with a flyover by Light Sport Aircraft sponsors. Thursday afternoon EAA President Rod Hightower will visit EXPO 2012, followed by AOPA President Craig Fuller on Friday. A live aircraft auction will take place on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 am with a variety of aircraft and vacations selling via a live auctioneer and live stream bidding. Sunday EXPO 2012 will boast its first Model Airplane Contest. Closing ceremonies on Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2 pm will feature the “Sebring Send-Off” of approximately 12 LSAs taking flight, destination Bahamas, a happening in conjunction with the Bahamas Tourism Office.
