Tom Wathen, chairman of board for The Wathen Center, has presented John Lyon with a Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes service to the Wathen Center and Flabob Airport (RIR) in Riverside, Calif.
Cited, among other accomplishments, was Lyon’s 12 years of service as the first president of the Wathen Foundation. During that time he also provided gratis legal counsel for the foundation.

In recognizing Lyon’s contributions, Wathen said: “It is the spirit of volunteerism and dedication that John Lyon has embodied in the formative years of the foundation that has brought this organization forward and established it as a leader in educational programs that inspire children through the fascination of aviation. John has assisted me in realizing a dream and his contributions have been invaluable.”
As an additional form of recognition, Wathen revealed that the center’s library has been named the John and Melinda Lyon Library.
