An airport celebration will be held May 11-12 at Oceano Airport (L52) in California.
The festivities begin Friday May 11 with a Beach Burger Fry and Dance from 5:30 to 9:30. The $10 ticket buys dinner and the dance. Music will be provided by The San Luis Jazz Band.
The theme of Saturday’s events is A Salute to Veterans. The festivities begin at 9 a.m. and go until 3 p.m. with free admission. There will be a Wheel of Fortune for fuel discounts, as well as a Lions Club pancake breakfast, static displays, emergency responder displays and free children’s activities.
Opening ceremonies begin at noon, with a veterans recognition at 12:30 p.m. Lunch served by the EAA Weanie Wagon and Oceano Elks Lodge.
There will be live big band music from Central City Swing Band. At 2 p.m. there will be a raffle and silent auction with donations from General Aviation News, Whelen, Aircraft Spruce, Sportys, AOPA, Wicks, JPI instruments, Electronics International, David Clark, Rod Machado and Lightspeed.
New this year: Airport volunteers will be collecting items for Arbiter Systems Troop Support program. Cathy Baker started this program after she lost her son in Iraq. The company she works for, Arbiter Systems, has paid for the postage for the over 10,000 care packages sent to troops to date.

- Sausage/Cheese pack, Slim Jim’s
- Hard Candy
- Baby Wipes [unscented soft packs best]
- Black or Green heavy duty work socks
- Travel Sized Toiletries
- Cup O Noodles
- Dog Treats [For K9s]
- Lunches to Go [tuna/chicken with crackers]
There will be donation boxes onsite for the care package items.
