McBride Airport in Eastern Iowa is shutting down after 50 years of operation, according to a report in Eastern Iowa Life. “Shutting it down is not easy for me,” says Ivan McBride, whose late father, Melvin, founded the airport half a century ago. But, with increasingly expensive liability insurance, it was time, he said.

This area, Cedar Rapids/Marion, IA, is sufficiently served by TWO airports; (KCID) and (C17) – McBrides demised had little to do with “fixed” costs – simply a case of to little demand. And to futher comment Mr.Tom”Wing”Spann – a Coke was 10 cents 50 years ago and penny candy still could be found - I guess we could also “point the finger” at lawyers for the extinction of penny candy and a Coke now a dollar+? The old BLAME GAME at its best!
One again lawyers have dealt another blow to general aviation. What was a 30,000 family airplane is now 300,000. What was a 4,000 car is now 40,000. What was a nice airport for a cross country refuleing stop and potty break is having to close.
