Innovations: Open up

By Janice Wood · February 5, 2013 ·

Casey Hansen, a pilot and CFI in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has launched OpenFlightManual.org, designed to bring the open source concept to flight training.

Working with a team of volunteers, Hansen hopes to create and maintain an online depository of aviation information.

“We’re building a free, open, sharable, online flight training manual,” he says on the Open Flight Manual Facebook page. “We’ll cover all of the topics pilots need to learn to fly or brush up on their skills. The content will be accessible via any device and usable by flight schools and independent flight instructors/students alike.”
