#Oshbash awards to honor social media stars

By Ben Sclair · May 5, 2013 ·

EUGENE, Ore. – The #Oshbash Awards honor those who keep the aviation conversation humming on Twitter. Airplanista, an aviation blog site cultivated by Dan Pimentel, will present the first-ever #Oshbash Awards at its annual meetup event on Wednesday, July 31 (5:30-7:30 pm) in the EAA Press Tent at the 2013 EAA Airventure Oshkosh.

As a blog, Airplanista (and formerly the digital magazine) celebrates the many people who live to fly, dedicated aviators and aviation enthusiasts who have chosen to devote their life to flying GA and business airplanes. Many of these “Airplanistas” also spend time tweeting as #Avgeeks on Twitter, and are part of a growing group of aviation-minded social media users who deserve to be recognized.

“I believe the aviation conversation on social media has reached critical mass” said Airplanista founder and Oshbash host Dan Pimentel. “More and more aviators are blogging and using Twitter to gather the community together as we face increasing threats from all directions. Honoring a few of these writers is my blog’s way of saying thank you for continuing to push the envelope by producing informative and entertaining content that keeps current pilots engaged, while enticing prospective student pilots to pick up the phone and book their first flight lesson.”

#Oshbash has enjoyed support from the aviation community, including a donation of the awards from Florida-based Edco Awards and Specialties, and refreshments from Oshkosh’s own Ardy & Ed’s Drive in. David Allen, founder of the video blog site Other People’s Airplanes, will live stream the #Oshbash event online, and publicity/graphics/marketing services have been donated by Celeste/Daniels Advertising and Design.

For more information or to find out how to become a nominee and possibly win an #Oshbash award, visit www.Oshbash.com. After the nominees are selected, public voting will begin on July 1, 2013 at oshbash.com/vote will decide the eventual winners. Contact #Oshbash host Dan Pimentel via email at [email protected] or on Twitter as @Av8rdan.
