New sponsor for Air Race Classic

By General Aviation News Staff · May 7, 2013 ·

The oldest cross-country air race, the Air Race Classic (ARC), will be sponsored this year by the only watch company dedicated to female flyers, The Abingdon Co.

The Air Race Classic is an all female race that encompasses nearly 2,400 miles and four days of competitive flying. The ARC has a history with roots back to the 1929 First Women’s Air Derby. The 2013 race has 49 teams registered.

The Elise model of Abingdon’s watches has been selected as the Official Timepiece of the Air Race Classic. Abingdon will support the Air Race Classic by providing Elise watches to be awarded to each member of the first and second place teams, along with additional models of watches for the silent auction at the awards banquet.

The 37th Annual Air Race Classic runs from June 18-21. The race begins in Pasco, Wash., and the finish line will be in Fayetteville, Arkansas, encompassing a total of 2,449 statute miles. The race route has stops at nine airports in four days.
