What student pilots wished they had known

By General Aviation News Staff · July 8, 2014 ·

Globalair.com blogger Sarina Houston put out a call to pilots on Reddit asking them what they wished they had known as a student pilot. The answers are interesting, ranging from how to get fuel at a self-service pump to how to start a hot engine. Check out the blog here.

What do you wish you’d known as a student pilot? Tell us in comments below.

One thing I wish my instructor had told me during training is to USE ATC at every chance. Get used to being in the system. For those who fear it, use LIVEATC.net and listen to the pilots talk. Much will be approaches and funny other terms not yet taught, but you’ll get used to the tones, the terms, the way professional pilots talk versus the weekend warriors (don’t be a weekend warrior on the radio). ATC isn’t the boogie man that it feels at first. They’re going to help student pilots out, too! DO IT! It will help when you transition into IFR training.
