Scheyden Catalina Air Show set for Oct. 4

By General Aviation News Staff · August 18, 2014 ·

The Third Annual Scheyden Catalina Air Show will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, in Avalon Bay on California’s Catalina Island.

Supporting the mission of sharing the magic and thrill of flying with spectators young and old will be performances by some of the world’s most skilled aviators. Among these are “Super Dave” Mathieson in his customized Scheyden MX2, Jon Melby, Stephan Trischuk, Vicky Benzing and living legend Clay Lacy flying his vintage United Airlines Douglas DC-3.

“This unique experience will highlight the thrill and precision of flight over one of the country’s most beautiful harbors,” says Jeff Herold, Scheyden founder and an instrument-rated private pilot. “We’re taking the production to even greater heights this year with new performers and a VIP Experience package.”

The ticketed VIP Experience will offer attendees a special viewing area with hors d’oeuvres, along with five hours of beer and wine tasting that features two of the nation’s finest craft breweries, Stone Brewery and Firestone Walker Brewing Co. Also included are a variety of musical performances, with one of the best Jim Morrison impersonators, Dave Brock of Wild Child, joining legendary guitarist Robby Krieger of The Doors for a headline performance.

The Catalina Air Show is the primary fundraiser for the Catalina Island Aviation Foundation, which helps maintain Catalina Island’s Airport-in-the-Sky – a critical component to the survival of local islanders – and works with the Catalina Island Conservancy to preserve nesting grounds for the American Bald Eagles that call the area home.
