Author David McCullough was profiled on CBS Sunday Morning ahead of the May 5 release of his new book The Wright Brothers.
McCullough is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner who penned Presidential biographies Truman and John Adams. In The Wright Brothers, McCullough also “illuminates the little-known but vital role in the success of the bachelor brothers played by their sister, Katherine.”
The Wright Brothers is available from Amazon (and other retailers) for $18 in hardback and $14.99 for Kindle.
Charles Edward Taylor, 24 May 1868 – 30 Jan. 1956 was the Wright Bros. unhealded engine builder / mechanic.
Quite right – his development of a lightweight engine for the project was what enabled them to succeed. They had no idea how to do that, or where to get such an engine.
Reading McCullough’s latest opus on my Kindle right now. He paints a wonderful picture of these two extraordinary brothers and their incredible family bond. Their dedication made them a great example of how to succeed with brains, talent and a willingness to work. Hard! The book also explores earlier efforts to understand the principles of flight, and how the Wrights had to “reinvent the wheel,” to refine erroneous data they and other tried to work with. Every pilot deserves to read about and understand their contribution to humanity.
