A website that aims to bring ride-sharing to the skies is in a legal dogfight with federal regulators who want to clip its wings, according to a report on Politico. The site, Flytenow, designed to allow passengers to hitch rides with private pilots while divvying up the costs, was effectively shut down by the FAA last summer.
Now the company is hoping a federal appeals court will prompt the FAA to change course, with a hearing set for Sept. 25. Read the full report here.

This is another way in which the gov’t confiscates a liberty then sells it back to you in the form of a license.
They like using the internet to disseminate their “advice” cheaper….. but for some reason don’t want YOU to use it to find someone to share a ride although you can walk into any airport gathering and do the same thing verbally, alive and in person.
It is ridiculous.
Oh please….don’t make flying less expensive for anyone. We have too many private pilots as it is and getting a license and spending time flying is too inexpensive already so don’t make it so more people can fly and get the bug! (my sarcasm font just imploded!)
Uber on the ground, Uber in the sky. If the operator has a license to operate, then let the people decide what they want to do. It all boils down to government taxation and fees. My grandfather drove a horse and wagon to town, did the DOT tell him he could not pick up passengers? Did he need a taxi license? If the passenger wanted a lift, he offered something in return, a chicken or apple pie. Today’s pilot has paid thousands for their license to fly. Time building is so expensive and hard to earn. This is a great way for young pilots to earn their wings. Besides how many first officers still live in their parents basements!
FAA sez: We not happy until you not happy
Why does the FAA fight the pilots on every progressive move ment? They seem to be woried about job protection. What a mental shame.
